Shiloh. The cabin. Made of wood and nails. Simple, really, but a source of pride for the people of Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee. Their little church. She stands alone in her field, ever watching, and soon, the silent witness to a tragedy. The secret she kept hidden, hidden in every nail and board.

She guarded the field like she now guards the secret of the tragedy. She protected her people from the evil of the world, but she could not protect the field from the cannons and guns. They invaded, with their noise and their pain and their anger. Grant leading the blue, Johnston leading the gray. Why were brothers fighting? Yet, what does a building care? If Shiloh could not stop the fighting, the least she could do was offer shelter, serve as a hospital.

For a time it seemed as if the gray wave was impenetrable. It did not last. Blue-clad reinforcements arrived and Grant won the day, forcing the Confederates into retreat. Forcing them to leave behind friends, brothers, and General Johnston.

And one, lonely building, bearing a tragic secret. A building does not feel, but Shiloh did. The people return to their church and fill it with love and peace and song, but when they leave, Shiloh is alone. Guarding her field and guarding her secret.
ok i think this one's even shorter than the first. but i like it. =]

i tried to do it somewhat from Shiloh's perspective. sort of... the battle really was named after the church. i thought that was pretty cool.

the second manassas is next. enjoy!

This is such a creative perspective! It really makes you think about Shiloh while telling the story of the battle at the same time. Excellent! :D Would this be one of the harder ones to write, with all the research and everything, though? If so, your effort soooo paid off! :D I can't wait for the second manassas!
